Grey Milk's debut full-length City Parks After Dark is an ambitious, energetic, enthusiastic opus, a frenetic assault fronted by guitars (both acoustic and electric) and passionate vocal performances, aided by the reliable rock rhythm section standbys of bass and drums, abetted by the not-so-typical embellishments of strings, piano, harmonica, and vocal ensembles, and reinforced, last but not least, by lyrics which are distinctly personal yet also make global, community-based statements. Think that description seems over-stuffed? It's low-carb compared to a Grey Milk song. 13 songs, 53+ minutes will make sure you leave the table feeling satified. This is no sucker punch - more like a knockout right hook uppercut like the ones Little Mac used to dish out on Super Macho Man, courtesy of band mainstays Jesse Houle (vocals, acoustic guitar) and Sean Watson (bass guitar, backing vocals) and a supporting cast of two-large-to-list-here. After you pick yourself up off the floor, put your CD player on repeat and listen some more.
